Description: Online training with immediate access upon enrollment.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) requires the healthcare industry to adopt, among other things, standards for financial and other administrative healthcare activities that are conducted electronically. HIPAA`s confidentiality provisions, collectively known as the Privacy Rule, limit how individuals and organizations in the health field, or in fields that support the healthcare industry, can use and disclose certain kinds of protected health information (PHI). HIPAA applies to many individuals and entities that store or transmit PHI. This course will help you understand who and what individuals, organizations, and kinds of information are subject to the Privacy Rule. It will also explain what rights patients have over how their protected health information may be used or disclosed by healthcare organizations, as well as how they can access and change their personal information.

Certification Requirements: Students must view the entire program and successfully pass an online, multiple-choice final assessment with >80% passing grade within a 90 day period of time (180 days for Professional Certification Programs). Certificate is accessible in PDF format immediately after satisfying requirements.
