Kepler, Johann (1571-1630) Short Biography – Kepler, Johann (1571-1630) German astronomer and mathematics teacher. Kepler studied under Tycho Brahe. Kepler was to formulate laws that “formed the groundwork of Newton’s discoveries, and are the starting point of modern astronomy. It is for his “Third Law” for which he is most known, viz., “the square of a planet’s periodic time is proportional to the cube of its mean distance from the sun.”
