Newton, Sir Isaac (1642-1727) Short Biography – Newton, Sir Isaac (1642-1727) Newton was a mathematician and natural philosopher (physicist). Newton’s principle achievement was that he went beyond the theoretical; he did experimental work. Though he built on the work of Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo; it is to Newton to whom we point as the person primarily responsible for the mechanistic theory which accounts for the perceivable universe.
