Teller, Edward (1908- )Short Biography – Teller, Edward (1908- )Hungarian born physicist, who studied under Niels Bohr at Copenhagen. Leaving Germany in 1933, Teller was to lecture both at London and at Washington (1935). During the war years he was to join Oppenheimer’s theoretical study group at Berkeley, California. Teller was instrumental in the development of the first earthbound thermonuclear explosion. He repudiated, as a scientist, any moral implications of his work, indeed, it is reported (Chambers) that he thought that but for Oppenheimer’s qualms, the United Sates might of had the hydrogen bomb by 1947. |
